| | I left the Sol Duc trailhead early on a cold, overcast day -- headed for the High Divide, but not really sure how far I'd make it. Beyond Sol Duc falls, there were few people, and beyond Deer Lake there were none. I'd just crested the ridge when intermittent snow showers began. When I reached the spot on the trail where Bogachiel Peak is visible, I stopped and ate lunch. Far below in the rocks, a black bear was roaming around, and the shrill sound of an elk bugle sounded far off. I turned around here, and got back to the truck before dark.
