Rainforest Wanderings

I went on a short off-trail excursion near one of my favorite Olympic Peninsula creeks, and nearly stepped on an elk calf. It barely acknowledged my presence, and I quickly snapped off as many photos as possible. As I was trying to sneak away, its mother stepped into view in front of me, and she didn't look happy. Luckily, she ran off to my flank, trying to draw me away from her calf and made a loud racket for several minutes. Hopefully no bears or cougars stumble upon the same sight in the coming weeks.
